When Claudia and Jonathan visited their wedding venues last year – 12 months to the day of their wedding – the last thought on their minds was that it would snow on their big day. On that day in 2012, they wore t-shirts as temperatures went above 20°C. But on March 23 of this year, it was anything but t-shirt weather as the country was covered in an unseasonal blanket of snow.

Couples can spend months, even years, planning their wedding, but the one thing that can’t be controlled – especially in the UK – is the weather. Thankfully, even a heavy snow fall could not dampen Claudia and Jonathan’s spirits.

The fact that they embraced the weather just underlined what a great couple Claudia and Jonathan are. The ceremony was held at St Chad’s Church in Wishaw and it was a joy to capture the loving looks between the pair as they said their vows. Before heading to The Link in Water Orton for the reception, I couldn’t resist stopping off at an amazing arched bridge nearby. It meant dodging some traffic, but all the drivers who passed by beeped their horns to congratulate the newly-weds.

I will take away one very valuable lesson from this wedding – when shooting a wedding in the snow, never jokingly shout out “snowball fight!” after doing the main group shot. Within seconds, all hell had broken loose with me as the main target. My camera managed to escape, although there was a close shave with my telemacro lens.

Once people had got back inside to thaw out, the evening celebrations got underway. I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed such crazy dancing at a wedding – I’m talking serious shapes being thrown here. Snow aside, that will be one of the lasting memories of this wedding.

That, and the tender moments Claudia and Jonathan shared at the alter when they exchanged vows.

Here is a selection of shots from the day. If you were a guest at the wedding, the full set of images are available on the galleries page.
