I will remember the year 2012 for as long as I live. There are many reasons, but the main one is that it was the year my daughter, Amelie, was born. As any parent will know, having a child completely turns your world around, but the ups will always outweigh the downs.

Also this year my older sister got married in September on what was an amazing day. And then there was the small matter of the Olympics during the summer, which – for a hardcore athletics enthusiast like me – was without doubt the sporting highlight of my life.

But aside from all that, I had the pleasure of photographing several great weddings throughout the year. Each and every one was memorable for different reasons and they were all an absolute pleasure to shoot. As an added bonus, I was shortlisted for ‘Regional Photographer of the Year’ in The Wedding Industry Awards. Although I didn’t win, it was a thrill to see the great feedback and 10/10 scores that were submitted. I truly appreciate each and every one of my brides and grooms who took the time to vote.

With each wedding I’m always interested to discover which images are the bride and groom’s favourites. Quite often they’ll favour a simple family portrait over and above a more creative shot with great composition. Such choices goes to show that different people view things in different ways, and more often than not there is some sort of emotional connection involved.

But this blog post is not about my couples’ favourite shots; instead, I’ve chosen my favourite images of the past year. Each one brings back memories of my own that I had the pleasure to capture – from a bride’s last-minute preparations, the groom’s pre-wedding nerves, parents taking that emotional first glimpse at their daughter in her wedding dress, being pronounced man and wife at the alter, the little details that add personal touches, and all the other moments that happen throughout the day. I’d like to thank each couple for allowing me to a small part of the biggest day of their lives.

So, without further ado and in no particular order, here are my top 25 images of a fantastic year…
